NIAAA provides leadership in the national effort to reduce alcohol-related problems and conducts and supports research in many scientific areas such as: genetics, neuroscience, epidemiology, health risks and benefits of alcohol consumption, and alcohol prevention, and treatment. It collaborates with institutions, organizations, agencies and related alcohol abuse programs. It is also charged with translating and disseminating research findings to researchers, health care providers, policy makers and the public.
